A new survey commissioned by Borden Cheese highlights the growing pressure on parents to create picture-perfect summer experiences, with 72% of American parents feeling that summers used to be simpler in terms of activities and expectations. Among that group, 89% said it is important for their children to experience simple summers. The survey, conducted among a national sample of parents, underscores a desire to reclaim family time and reduce stress during the summer months.
To help parents drop high expectations and embrace a more relaxed summer, Borden Cheese is promoting three key hacks based on survey responses. First, allowing more flexibility with children's routines: nearly half of respondents (45%) are embracing later bedtimes, slower mornings, or less structured playtime to encourage spontaneous adventures and creativity. Second, prioritizing fun over perfection: 39% of parents plan to be more lenient with self-imposed expectations, focusing on connection over elaborate vacations or curated calendars. Third, planning simpler meals: one-third of respondents intend to simplify their menus, and 84% rely on quick solutions like mac and cheese, deli wraps, or cheese boards at least once a week during summer.
Jenny Mehlman, senior director of marketing, cheese, taste and flavors at Dairy Farmers of America, said, “Summer is the time for enjoying the sunshine, fresh air, endless day time and quality time with family and friends. Sometimes we get so caught up in the daily hustle, we forget to slow down and enjoy the little moments. Borden Cheese wants to help parents drop the high expectations, embrace a little bit of the mess and remember how good a simple, relaxed summer can feel.”
To support these efforts, Borden Cheese Individually Wrapped Singles are offering family-friendly recipes, easy meal hacks, and weekly giveaways. One featured recipe is the Juicy Lucy Cheeseburger Sliders, which can be prepared in about 20 minutes using Borden American Melts, ground beef, and simple toppings. The survey indicates that 81% of parents plan to use hacks to simplify summers, and the company aims to provide resources that make stress-free fun achievable.
